Family Counseling Palatine, IL
Family Counseling Palatine, IL
Contrary to the stigma setup by family sitcoms on TV, families do not resolve every conflict in 30 minutes or less. In fact, some conflicts or issues can tear a family apart if one does not seek professional family counseling. There are many conflicts that require a professional third party to help resolve the conflict and find a solution. However, many families follow the stereotype of trying to work through complex issues without any help; only causing more pain as a result.
Fortunately, we offer family counseling alongside single and couples counseling sessions for families who need help working through any issues. With our counseling, we can help a family unit come back together and experience healing. The road to resolution will not be a simple one, which is why it is important to start with a strong foot forward.
GATHERING INFORMATION
To begin the family counseling process, we need to gather information on each member and the situation during the first intake appointment. During the initial intake appointment, we will go over medical history and any current conditions that can be affecting the situation. These conditions may not be medical conditions such as anxiety or depression, but can include feeling stressed from a busy schedule, grief from losing a loved one or issues with self-esteem.
Other conditions that can have a negative effect on the family include:
- Substance abuse
- PTSD/CPTSD
- Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Adjustment disorders
- ADD/ADHD
- Depression
- Anxiety
No family is perfect. For many families, there is an entirely different tone and dynamic behind the closed door in their home. Due to this, there are many issues a family member will struggle with that can negatively affect other members. If one family member is struggling with OCD, then other family members may find it difficult to live with the individual and not be able to share their frustrations.
Our psychotherapy can help to resolve these issues and help patients make long-lasting changes that will have a positive impact on their lifestyles. Our team creates a tranquil environment for patients to feel safe and comfortable expressing themselves. We can only help people achieve healthy personal growth if they will open up with us and share what is on their minds.
NO ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL TREATMENT
People struggling with depression, anxiety or any other issue, may find it difficult to function every day while trying to cope with these issues. We can help patients navigate through these issues and begin the approach to a healthier lifestyle. It is important to note that if a family member already has treatment for depression then the individual needs to continue whatever treatment he or she is already taking.
Family counseling works well alongside other treatment in order to address multiple areas of one’s life. Our team of therapists can provide a range of techniques and specialties to help the family address their issues in an effective and healthy way. There is no one-size-fits-all treatment when it comes to family counseling. Thus, we will develop a personalized treatment for the family’s needs from the initial intake session.
During the intake session, we will explore the family’s needs and determine the best course of action with you. Our patients do not spend time in the dark about their treatment. The family may all be present for each session or only certain members may attend appointments. These sessions will not resemble what people see on TV or in the movies. We will address the issues that you and your family are struggling with in a safe space.
We will explore the roles and rules of the family’s household to get a better understanding of what is only fueling the issues even more. Sessions can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour but may vary, depending on the family’s needs. If a family member is struggling with something like depression, the other members may not understand the individual’s emotions or difficulties trying to cope with the depression.
On the other side, the individual may not realize how the depression affects the rest of the family. Our treatment does not strive to place blame on one person or another. We strive to help the family resolve the conflict and begin the path toward a healthier lifestyle. To reach that point, we need all family members to be willing to take the steps toward positive change. We understand that the first step is incredibly difficult but we are here to help continue moving forward. To begin family counseling, give us a call at 773-592-7227 today.
